Beyond Stressed

I have not been able to paint for the last two months because I have so much work right now. I'm a freelancer so I have to 'make hay while the sun shines'. I am stressed out and depressed and I think it comes from not being able to paint. I tried doing some digital stuff in the evenings but for me it's not the same kick. I never realized what painting did for me. I feel sick and lost without it. Does anyone else have a physical NEED to create? What do you do when you can't?

The only time I'm really relaxed, Karyn, is when I'm on vacation, or out with my camera. I have a 40 hour job (I'm there now, but I'm waiting for a server to be back online), so I'm confined pretty much to the weekend with the camera and mostly dependent on the weather as well.

I know what you mean. You NEED it to be a balanced person.

That's a good word, 'balanced'. I feel out of balance. Not good.

I understand. You need to make the time for yourself, even if only a few minutes. I hope you can.

No good... no good.
I've got a home project that I am working on now - & watercolors have not been on my list of priorities.
Big mistake me now thinkeths. That is how I unwind, focus & dream.
Without that escape - life just feels like one big chore to me.
Purely self indulgent - but IDC.

work on "smalls" Karyn if you can't get involved your usual sized projects.

Thanks, Janine and John. I like your zebra, Janine! Maybe I'll go to the library and get some art books.

Don't know if I would call it a need, but whenever I'm not able to get out with the camera, I usually have something else that covers that time slot, ie., grandkids, pets, yard work, baseball practice (grandkids), weather, etc, etc. I guess my problem would be a scheduling thing.

Karyn, everyone gets overwhelmed from to time. The important thing is to always set
aside some time for yourself. It doesn't have to be much, but make it your own - and
make it a regular routine.

If painting is as important to you as you say, then it is important for you to find time
to do it. It is really that simple, if you want it to be.

You can do it!

I'm frustrated as hell right now that is why you see me posting. I've been on the road for months and when I am in a place where I can unload my truck and paint I just want to rest.Right now I'm in painters heaven in a place called Arroyo Hondo along the Rio Grande Gorge just north of Taos New Mexico and I'm here hiding, tired from doing manual labor and beating myself up. I feel fed up with others need for my time and I resent painting itself for making me feel like a waste for not painting...at one time I half believed it brought me joy but give me a break, painting sucks...it's hard work and demands your full attention and focus, I hate it

Although my principal art outlet is photography, I do have some little bound art journals I pull out and draw in when I can't get out with the camera. That helps....I actually have some of those posted in my drawings gallery, but mostly it's just an "art outlet".

I don't think I've ever had a physical need to paint but definitely an emotional or soulful one.
Being overwhelmed with various health issues/work related needs is not uncommon since many of us at one point or another experience it.
Balance is key. Finding the balance takes work.
I wish you well and that you find what works best for you to accomplish what you feel is needed.

Robert, you sound like I feel, except for the 'painting sucks part.' It does demand my full attention and focus and that's why I'm hesitant to pick up a brush when I don't have the time to give because I'll either keep painting when I should be working, or be so distracted that what I do is crappy. Keep hiding and enjoy the moment.

Thanks all...I miss you guys! Look for more work from me in a month or so.

xoxo,
K.

Yupp, happens to me whenever I am forced for one reason or another not to be behind the view finder.

It is a physical need for me, an addiction of sorts, but not particularly unhealthy.

Karyn I know exactly how that feels. My art is what keeps me from my depression. It is my only medicine and I love it.

Healthcare should cover the cost of paints, Zilpa. Cheaper than drugs or therapy.

"Healthcare should cover the cost of paints..."

So......ACA could be changed to become the Affordable Creative Act? ;)

now that I have Karyns permission to keep hiding I got to thinking, is there anything in the withdrawal that serves me? I mean it is going inside mentally and physically, it may be familiar but it's not so en( joy)able
