After nearly 700 submissions, Tom Lowe's image “Meatballs” from his Mojave Moonlight Series has been chosen as one of 30 winners in the SKY contest at Duncan Miller Gallery and will be included in a special section of YourDailyPhotograph.com. The juror, Paula Tognarelli (curator at the Griffin Museum of Photography), selected the pieces to be included in this special gallery.
A note from Paula:
I want to say that I had the most enjoyable experience looking through all of the images. Since I was tasked with choosing only 30 images, I had to tighten my criteria for making my selections. I found that I had to quickly move away from the representational interpretation of sky. Over 75% of the submissions were literal translations. In order to bring an interesting pace and rhythm to the mixture of images, I chose a variety of creative depictions of sky and your photograph was one of them. All in all, I found over a hundred images I would have liked to showcase. My final edit was a difficult one but very exciting for me when I looked at it as a body of work. I have taken note of all my favorite photographs and the photographers. As the sky is one of my favorite topics, our paths may cross again. Again thank you for submitting and for sharing your photographs with me. Whatever happens in life for you, do not ever give up looking upwards.
