REAL HORSE POWER Published In National Geographic Magazine

February 24th, 2015 - Colts Neck, NJ

COLTS NECK — Readers of “National Geographic” who examined the August issue closely may have noticed that a Colts Neck resident had a photograph published in the magazine.

“National Geographic” editors printed a photograph that was taken by Mike Quinn, 25, of Colts Neck. Quinn shot the photo at a thoroughbred horse breeding farm in Colts Neck where his father has worked as the manager and caretaker for 20 years.

“We always bring the horses into the barn before it snows. I set myself up [to take pictures] by telling my father to wake me up in the morning,” Quinn said. “The horses went crazy when we let them out of the barn. They were running around kicking the snow.”

Quinn snapped the winning shot just as Private Miracle, a thoroughbred mare who races at Monmouth Park, Oceanport, jumped through a mound of snow.
