Joe the Photog Releases First Shots of Charlotte Streetcar Line

Joseph C. Hinson Photography and Joe The Photog Dot Com are pleased to announce that photographs by Mr. Hinson of the new streetcar line in Charlotte, North Carolina are now available for purchase on his website powered by Fine Art America.

The CityLYNX Gold Line is the first 1.5-mile segment of a 10-mile streetcar system. It travels from the Charlotte Transportation Center via Trade Street to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center with six stops that allow citizens to connect to CATS bus and LYNX Blue Line light rail services, small businesses, Central Piedmont Community College and Novant Hospital. It's the first time a streetcar has run in Charlotte since the 1930s.

"It was really enjoyable to ride the streetcar and to shoot the pictures, too," Hinson said. "It shows that the history of rails across America is far from over."

Hinson has shot a wide range of subjects on southeastern rails from old steam engines to modern diesel locomotives and passenger equipment. But the .light rail and now streetcar lines in Charlotte are top of his list of subjects to shoot.

"Shooting the light rail in Charlotte can be very fun and rewarding even if a little difficult. The nature of urban life in a downtown setting is trick and gets moreso when you put the subject in the middle of a four lane road. But it's worth it," Hinson says.

There are currently five high resolution photographs for purchase on Joe the Photog Dot Com in a variety of mediums -- prints, metal, canvas and acrylic.

Phase II of the streetcar project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and will more than double the route milage of the system as it extends from both ends. Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) expects to replace the replica trolleys currently in use with modern streetcars that look more like the current light rail vehicles currently in use.
