American and European Art features a fine collection of works from an important private American collection, which includes works by artists Reginald Marsh, Carl Sprinchorn, Guy Carleton Wiggins, Don Freeman, Louis Saphier, Philip Evergood, Oscar Bluemner, Miklos Suba, Walt Kuhn, Jack Levine, Manierre Dawson, Preston Dickinson, William Zorach, Marguerite Zorach, Rockwell Kent and Max Weber. Also in the sale, are paintings by artists Guy Pène Du Bois, Emil Carlsen, William Aiken Walker, Allen Tucker, Ludwig Bemelmans, William G. Congdon, Dorothy Alden Morang, John Bratby, Siegward Sprotte, Francisco Riba-Rovira, Angel Botello, Montein Boonma, Ralph Fasanella, Antoni Clavé, Tom Hopkins, Itzchak Tarkay and Peter Max. Pennsylvania Impressionists and Modernists include Mary Smyth P. Taylor, Roscoe Clarence Magill, Kenneth R. Nunamaker, Daniel Garber, John E. Berninger, Antonio Pietro Martino, John Folinsbee, Walter Emerson Baum, Arrah Lee Gaul, Sue May Wescott Gill, Franklin Chenault "Watty" Watkins, Ranulph Bye, Joseph Barrett, Louis K. Stone and Raymond Granville Barger. Prints by Howard Norton Cook, Elizabeth Colwell, Elie Nadelman, Luigi Rist, Herbert Matter, Romare Bearden, Henri Matisse, Giorgio de Chirico, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Rufino Tamayo, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall and Salvador Dali. An important baptism image by Doris Ulmann is a wonderful example of early 20th C. Photography. Lots 84–97 are from a collection of art by Joseph Stella belonging to Josephine M. Lettera. This collection of over 500 hundred works was inherited by Ms./Mrs. Lettera from Mrs. Giovanni Stella, the artist’s sister-in-law. There is also a nice collection of works by Robert Moore Kulicke, lots 143-148.
