Description
Wild Roses of Grand Pre by Karen Cook - The stunning architecture of the Grand Pre Memorial Chapel beckons in the distance with a frame of pink wild roses as its foreground.
I never miss an opportunity to visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The history of the Acadian people and their expulsion from this land in the 18th century never fails to move me, but it is the beauty and tranquility of the site that keeps bringing me back.
The Grand Pre National Historic Site with its memorial Church is dedicated to the remembrance of the Expulsion and was built in the early part of the 20th century and became a National HIstoric Site in 1982. In 2012 it was dedicated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a memorial to Acadian way of life and deportation. Family records, list of names, artifacts of the time and other memorabilia are on display in the park.
A beautiful landscape in any season, summer at Grand Pre brings special joy and colors as the ancient willows, evergreens, wild flowers and the blue sky over the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia add welcome beauty to the Grand Pre Memorial Chapel
