Description
There are approximately 23 Volcanic Craters in Arizona, Sunset Crater National Park is the one we have most frequently visited. There are great campgrounds there with very nice hardtop campsites. With good picnic tables, on cement pads and BBQ pits. What is most unusual is the Fire-pits where you can burn wood for a campfire in each site. Am not familiar with the name of this one that an be seen on the other side of the Grand Canyon, as many areas on the North side of the Canyon are inaccessible. Believe there are no roads into the area, though there may be hiking trails. But it would probably be a good 20-30 mile hike in from where we've seen on a map, the nearest road.

Humphreys Peak is the highest natural point in an elevation of 12,637 feet located in the Kachina Peaks Wilderness in the Coconino National Forest, This Volcano is about 11 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona. It is the highest of the extinct volcanos known as the San Francisco Peaks. The summit can be reached by hiking the 4.8 mile long Humphreys Trail beginning at Arizona Snowbowl ski resort in the Coconino National Forest.

Arizona is much larger than many realize. The Navajo Reservation alone, is larger then the state of West Virginia, and it is a small portion of Arizona. :) Even the Grand Canyon, is larger than some states...
