Hermit Rest Viewpoint
We visit the Grand Canyon half a dozen times a year, for one or two weeks, and every time we see things differently. The time of day you go to each viewpoint, makes the light different.... Walk to a different point, even ten feet to the left or right can make a difference in your viewpoint. Your attitude or mood at the time will cause you to focus on different aspects, etc. So even when at the same viewpoint, like Maricopa or Mather, and others, you get different images each time you visit the Canyons...
...................................................................
Then there are Mather, and Yavapai, which are must see locations. Probably at least 90% of visitors go there so they can be crowded
.................................................
Less crowded locations, with fantastic views are Guano, Lapin, Moron, Navajo, and Desert View. Most all of the viewpoints have views of the Colorado river, but some of the best have no view of the river or very restricted one. Maps of the park show some of the areas that you would like other than Mather and Yavapai. Peaks that are prominent such as Isis Temple, Thor, Zoroaster, and views of the Abyss. There are also many trail heads along the south rim where you can walk down a ways (take plenty of water) or even all the way to the river.
