.....Jasper National Park is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, spanning 10,878 km2 (4,200 sq mi). It is located in the province of Alberta, north of Banff National Park and west of the City of Edmonton. The park includes the glaciers of the Columbia Icefield, hot springs, lakes, waterfalls and mountains. Wildlife in the park includes elk, caribou, moose, mule deer, white-tailed deer, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, grizzly bears, black bears, coyotes, beavers, Rocky Mountain pikas, hoary marmots, grey wolves, mountain lions, and wolverines.
This park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, together with the other national and provincial parks that form the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, for the mountain landscapes containing mountain peaks, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, canyons, and limestone caves as well as fossils found here.
Major river systems originating in the park include the North Saskatchewan River (part of the Hudson Bay basin), and the Athabasca and Smoky rivers (part of the Arctic Ocean basin).
....A little about me:
I'm Canadian, born and raised in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, with a long career in radar, communications, and computers.Retired at 74. Scion of a Grand Banks schooner captain and a merchant mariner,I love the ocean. I started using 35mm.color in 1950.Favourite camera was an Exakta Varex.Switched to digital around 1998. My favourite themes are the sea, oceans, coastal, villages, water, lakes, mountains, wildlife, sky, clouds, flowers, forests, the National Parks such as Cape Breton Highlands, Waterton, Banff, Jasper, Yoho, Glacier, Mt. Robson, Kootenay, Strathcona, historic sites, Nova Scotia, nature, scenery, landscapes, seascapes, birds and many more. I've written magazine illustrating them with my own photos. I love photographing whatever appeals to me or happens to catch my eye. Almost all of my images are of Canada, though I probably specialize more on the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts and the western mountains. But you'll find an assortment from the whole country, including some from several years in the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions back in the 1950's and 60's. I hope some of you will get some enjoyment from my efforts. Constructive comments and suggestions are always welcome.
