There are many areas of the Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over a mile. Probably the majority of those in the world have seen the classic photographs of the Grand Canyon. They all come from the National Park. But, millions have never seen some views of the Colorado River, where the Canyon comes out of the carved hard rocks, in the Nevada area and flows into Arizona where there are thousands of grand views and Powell also traveled down the Colorado River.

While Visiting the Grand Canyon on the Arizona, or south side of the river, there are many places where there are excellent viewpoints. Many go to Mather, spend a little time there and leave the canyon. But travel along the roads through the park, from west to east and you can see bright angel trail, the abyss view, Viewpoints like Guano or Grandview and along Hermit Road there are many, just take the Free Bus ride to see them. Then there are other favorites of ours like Hopi or Lapin and Maricopa or Moron where one f the most famous artists who painted the Grand Canyon frequented, so it was named for him. Then there are mesas to see habitats of the Native Americans the Anasazi going back tens of thousands of years. The land of the Navajo in the Reservation as you leave the Eastern entrance to the National Park

Other viewpoints we love in the canyon, are Piima named to honor a tribe that lived in the canyon for hundreds of years. There is also Powell Point, where you can see vistas of Pinacles or Peaks and plateau or mesa. There are views of red rocks galore, on the south rim, with redstone and sandstone or limestone. Along the rim if you check the entire route through the Canyon, you also will find basalt from ancient volcanoes of the southwest. The wilderness areas of Arizona seems an endless place to explore, until people come here, they have no idea how large this state is, why just the Navajo Reservation alone is larger than two states on the east coast.

Here in Arizona it provides a really nice area for recreation, and the river is more accessible, just below the Hoover Dam at sunset we have a blaze of unexpected color. There are many viewpoints along both sides of the Colorado River, on the Arizona, Nevada, and California coastlines.

Nearly two billion years of the Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While the specific geologic processes and timing sre subject of debate by geologists, recent evidence suggests the Colorado River established its course at least 17 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River continued to erode and form the canyon to its present-day configuration.
