Description
"Summer Morning Visitors"Watercolour painting of a country kitchen on a summer morning. Sunlight pouring in and straying Maran hens pecking their way through the back door. The traditional Irish country kitchen features a hand crafted sugan chair. The seat of a sugan chair is made of woven straw.
Maran hens and cockerels are clean and docile, with a passive disposition - very likely to wander into the kitchen !
About Marans ..... .... ....
Marans originated in the French village of Marans about 240 miles southwest of Paris or 100 miles north of Bordeaux. Marans is a port town in the Bay of Biscay.
A steady supply of trade ships over the centuries brought new breeds of poultry to Ireland and Britain which were bred with the local chickens, resulting in the Maran varieties we have today.
They lay tasty brown eggs !

Trudi, I saw this painting (and voted for it) in the "S" contest of Beautiful Watercolors, which I also entered. Your use of light is very compelling, not just in the window, door and floor, but perhaps especially on the hanging hat. I live in Florida, U.S. In a Tampa suburb called Ybor City, roosters are allowed to roam freely throughout the main street and will often visit neighboring houses. It's also a "country" scene, but in a very urban setting. Anyway, nice job with this one. It's very comforting. Tom
