Description
Watercolour painting of jug of snowdrops with a cornucopia of kitchen ware and personal objects on the dresser in the background.
Snowdrops are a potent symbol of the coming of Spring- however most flower in winter, before the vernal equinox (20 or 21 March in the Northern Hemisphere), but certain species flower in early spring and late autumn.
Snowdrops can form impressive carpets of white where they are native or have been naturalised.
Several public Gardens which close during the winter season open specially during snowdrop season in February for visitors to admire the display. In the beautiful Altamont Gardens in Tullow, County Carlow Ireland -near where I live, they have a large collection of different varieties of Snowdrops and have guided tours of the Snowdrop beds in February.
