Description
Loose watercolour with pastel of purple Rhododendron in a glass vase.
I love Rhododendrons with their gorgeous showy flowers, cool looking evergreen foliage. They appreciate the morning sun and afternoon shade and they let you know when it is too cold for their liking by curling up their leaves
Since these plants require acidic soil, they are often referred to as the family of acid-loving plants. Rhododendrons are found in the wild, chiefly in mountainous areas of the arctic and north temperate zones.
The name Rhododendron comes from the greek words "rodon" which means "rose" and "dendron" which means "tree", hence Rose Tree. Rhododendron flowers are usually produced in trusses.
Rhododendrons are referred to as the King of Shrubs since they are regarded by many as the best flowering evergreen plants for the temperate landscape.
