Description
Starry Night at Algonquin Park
This original painting on canvas board was created solely from my imagination, thinkingwhat if? What if Vincent van Gogh had met with the Group of Seven inAlgonquin Park? What might he have been moved to paint? This is my interpretation.
I am sure that van Gogh would have loved the endless skies, diversity of trees and flora, abundance of lakes and rivers and the sheer inspiring beauty found in Algonquin Park. The Group of Seven painted many of their masterpieces in a location such as this and at times, in similar styles to van Gogh. The windswept trees found on the rocky shorelines of inland lakes and Georgian Bay figure predominately in many Group of Seven paintings.
I am fortunate to live relatively close to both Algonquin Park and the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg, Ontario. The McMichael has an impressive collection of Canadian art featuring the Group of Seven as well as contemporary Canadian Artists.
In the night sky, you will see my favourite stars. Just to the right of the full moon are the three sisters, that form part of Orions Belt. In southern Ontario, they are best seen from late November to early Spring.
I hope you will like this dramatic painting. It would be stunning as a metal print or printed on canvas.
This original acrylic on canvas board is available for sale by contacting me, Catherine Howard, directly.
