Self-Portrait with Painting of Guitar (and Potted Plant)
1998
by Anita D. Livaditis
Acrylic Painting on Canvas
The artist is painting herself in her studio. Her studio was in a small mill town, in a one bedroom apartment above the town grocers and grill. She could smell the grilled cheese sandwiches frying. Her balcony looked out over the main street and she had baskets hanging on the ceiling out there. A pigeon had made her nest in one of them. Her paintings were on the wall and all over the floor. She lived with four dogs and 2 cats in this small studio.

Anita Dale Livaditis replied:
Thank you Don. :) I am really proud of this one. I worked so hard to get to it, years, then one day, there it was. It makes me happy you recognize something valuable in it. Cheers.
Raul Gubert
one of my favorite of yours..
Anita Dale Livaditis replied:
Thank you, Raul. Me, too. It is one of my best. It was harder than it looks to do. I wanted to do something like it for years and it took me years to understand how to do it. When I stopped, I stepped back, and I looked at it, and I said to myself, "You did it."

Raul, Thank you for MMPE rating! :D I can still see the little plant. It was a humble little plant.

This is a beautiful portrait. By a strange coinicidence, the line, colour abd even the way of doing the eyes reminds me to some degree of Jamini Roy, a very eminent Indian painter from the 1930s to 1950s. My mother has several of these and they sell for scores of tnousands of dollars these days. Vf
Anita Dale Livaditis replied:
Thank you! I just looked him up. I can see that. It's not that different from Byzantine painting in essence. I like his work - he has a cat with a shrimp that's great....for ten grand...at Christie's...not a bad place to be ;) It would be nice if he were alive to see it.
Anita Dale Livaditis replied:
Thanks for turning me on to to him, Arjun. I had good fun going through his work last night.
