Description
The wonderful view into the rugged Tucson Mountains from near the Red Hills Visitor's Center at Saguaro National Park west of Tucson, Arizona. The summer monsoon rains were more than adequate to make the desert transform into this lush landscape recorded on a spectacular autumn afternoon.
Thousands of healthy, young saguaro cacti parade down the slopes and across the bajada of this uniquely beautiful national park. The park was originally part of Tucson Mountain Park established in 1929 by Pima County to preserve and protect over 30,000 acres of virgin desert in the Tucson Mountains west of the city. It may have been the county's best idea, ever.
The Federal government took title to over 16,000 at the northern end of Tucson Mountain Park to create the Tucson Mountain District of Saguaro National Monument which already existed in the Rincon Mountains 25 miles to the east across the city. The monument became a National Park in 1994, and the Tucson Mountain District now covers over 25,000 acres.
The Tucson Mountains are one of the most biologically diverse locales in North America, which may be surprising to many people because it is a rather harsh desert environment. But it is home to an astonishing variety of flora and fauna, beginning with the iconic giant saguaro cactus, along with many other cactus species such as prickly pear, barrel, and cholla. It is host to trees like the long-lived ironwood and palo verde, the wildly eccentric ocotillo, and a wide variety of shrubs such as bursage, jojoba, pink fairy duster, numerous acacias, and brittlebush. All of which are visible in this photograph.
This photograph was deliberately made as a super-wide panorama in the 1:4 ratio format, and is intended to make a bold, colorful statement where dramatic and wide artwork is needed to fulfill a difficult design requirement. It can be obtained in widths up to 9 feet in length with excellent clarity for large walls, corridors, meeting rooms or other open interior spaces. A larger, 10' wide by 30" tall print can be obtained by contacting the artist.

Wonderful panorama of this beautiful place. That's quite a saguaro convention. I wonder what they are all chatting about? Featured in American Desert Southwest. L/F

Thank you, Jane! When the wind whistles through the cactus spines it sounds like they are whispering to each other. Your support gladdens my heart.
