Like many sites in many cities, Rua Agusta in Lisbon Portugal looks best at night when the warm glow is very inviting! This was especially true during our trip to Lisbon when we had overcast and gloomy skies. View from atop the Rua Agusta Arch, it is even more romantic and inviting! Rua Agusta is one of Lisbon's main pedestrian streets with mosaic pavements, outdoor cafes, international shops, and the ubiquitous street artist and peddler. The Confeiteria Nacional was a fave spot for the local confection called Pasteis de Nata, an egg custard tart. (Side note: Pasteis de nata were created before the 18th century by Catholic monks at the nearby Jeronimos Monastery in Belem. At the time, convents and monasteries used large quantities of egg whites for starching of clothes, such as nuns' habits. It was quite common for monasteries and convents to use the leftover egg yolks to make cakes and pastries, resulting in the proliferation of sweet pastry recipes throughout the country.
