Description
When you look at clouds, do you often see images of faces, shapes and forms of animals and other things. There is a scientific reason for this. It is the phenomenon of Pareidolia. Pareidolia is an optical projection that occurs as a byproduct of the way we process visual information. Kara Federmeier, a cognitive neuroscientist at the University of Illinois, explains the phenomenon this way: When you set your eyes on something (like clouds), you search your memories for anything that might look like it. He associates cloud shapes, with memories of familiar shapes, a psychological phenomenon based on the belief that any vague random stimulus may be significant and meaningful.
I created this cloudscape painting purely and randomly from my imagination. What shapes, things, faces do you see? As I finished this painting I could immediately see a number of familiar things. I did not paint these consciously. They occurred purely from the flow of creating the painting.
As you look at these clouds, what things do you see? What do your own memories create?
I hope you see many interesting and beautiful things in these clouds.

Wonderful artistry! I appreciate your description of this fascinating phenomenon. For me it's all about horses; it took me about 1 second to see the darker grey horse's head peering over the lighter grey clouds below, wings outstretched, neck extended. Freedom!
Roger Quesnel replied:
That’s so great Sandra! Yes, I see it now! Completely peering over the lighter grey clouds. I didn’t see it before. Thanks for taking the time to view the painting and read the description and for your kind and generous comments!
