Description
This photograph was taken October 2012 during a pontoon tour. Luckily I had a long lens to get the gator up close. The Okefenokee Swamp is a shallow, 438,000 acre, peat-filled wetland straddling the GA/FL line. The Okefenokee is the largest blackwater swamp in North America. The Okefenokee Swamp is home to many wading bird species. The Okefenokee is famous for its amphibians and reptiles such as toads, frogs, turtles, lizards, snakes as well as the American alligator and also a habitat for the Florida black bear.
