Description
Lupines or Lupin a flowering plant, has been one of our favorite flowers ever since we spent some weeks in Texas when they were everywhere on the Hillsides around Thousand Trails Preserves where we camped for weeks.
. . . . .
Lupinus, commonly known as Lupins or lupines (North America), is in the legume family. The family comprises about 280 species, with major centers in South and Western North America, parts of the Southern Hemisphere (New Zealand and parts of Australia) and the Andes and in the Mediterranean region and Africa.
. . . . .
Though the first ones we ever saw were in Texas, they grow in California like in Joshua Tree National Monument and in areas of Arizona there are vast numbers of lupines. We find them in many areas, including the Grand Canyon. Native lupine plants are good choices for gardeners because native plants are hardier than those that aren't native. By planting native plants you are also helping to keep local varieties from extinction.
