Action is packed into this watercolor painting "High Surf" by Joan Hartenstein. It is evening, the tide is rolling in and smashing against the granite rocks along the shore. Art has been my passion for most of my life. I studied at the Art Students League in New York City, then worked in the graphic arts field. For many years I have been painting in watercolor, oil, and acrylic mediums. My style has changed from realism to include impressionistic and abstract compositions. I want to capture the shapes and colors of nature by experimenting with different surfaces. Yupo and oriental papers allow me a freedom with watercolor and acrylic paints and inks.The medium and paper always lead me on to new paths of discovery.
