Description
This is the second Great Egret painting taken for telephoto photography my wife took from our back yard. The birds are in a shallow inlet of Carey Bay on Grand Lake O' The Cherokees in northeast Oklahoma. The photos were taken in the morning and the air was misty and still. I tried to capture the misty, telephoto feeling of that morning. Years ago, these birds were hunted to near extinction for the long white plumes that they grow in mating season. They were made a protected species and have since made a comeback. A Great Egret in flight is the symbol for the National Audubon Society.
