Description
Ernest Hemingway has been quoted to say, "My mojito in the Bodequita del Medio and my daiquiri in the Floridita". A seafood restaurant and cocktail bar, The Floridita still remains THE place to gather in Havana for good food, great music, and, of course, the daiquiri of which Ernest Hemingway was a frequent customer.
The bar opened in 1817 with the name "La Pina de Plata in the place it still occupies on the corner of Obispo and Monserrate Streets. Almost 100 years later, the large number of North American tourists persuaded the owner to change the name to "El Floridita".
Ernest Hemingway wasn't the only famous customer of the bar. The establishment was frequented by many generations of Cuban and foreign intellectuals and artists.....Ezra Pound, John Dos Passos, and Graham Greene to name a few. The interior of the establishment today contains many noticeable memorabilia of Hemingway with photographs, a bust and, more recently, a life-size bronze statue sculpted by the Cuban artist Jose Villa Soberon.
One of the coolest, vintage signs in the world, Floridita would be a nice addition to your sign collection!
