Description
I did a painting of this same tree a couple weeks ago. I finished this second one yesterday. I began it the day before. This is a plein air painting. I only had about an hour and a half to work on it the first day before the afternoon rain hit. Yesterday, I worked, again on location for an additional two and a half hours. I like this location because I am always in shade when beneath the tree. Even when the sun moves, I am shaded. Unfortunately, mosquitoes and deer flies like it, too.
I kept my insect repellent at hand the entire time. Reeking of eau de OFF, I worked quickly. The first day, I had painted the essential tree and background. Yesterday, I decorated it. I often think of painting like making a cake. The last thing you paint is usually the first thing that people see, just like a frosted cake. Once again, I painted from the tailgate of my van. I keep parking it in a slightly different place. I'm not really adept at backing my van through a the many trees and bushes.
The Spanish moss seemed to lend the old oak tree a sense of ethereality. The vines had leafed out quite a bit since I last painted that wonderful tree. I just might have to paint it again. It has such nice character. HONORABLE MENTION LEAD TIED WINNER in the TFGA SERIES- “Vine-Yards” CONTEST 56 members, 154, entries, and 291 votes!
