Description
"Colorado River Water Color Panorama" is a wide, 1:3 ratio format presentation for where bold, colorful, dramatic and unique art is required to fill a difficult wall. This image can be purchased in widths up to 9 feet with remarkable clarity and brilliant color to meet the most demanding design requirements.
Before the construction of Glen Canyon Dam a few miles upstream, the Colorado river ran a muddy brownish-red due to the sediments it carried. Now the sediments are trapped behind the dam, and the water is much cooler, hence the greenish coloration.
This photograph was made using a long exposure at One-Mile Riffle, well know to Colorado River travelers as the first small rapids one mile downstream of Lee's Ferry. Lee's Ferry was previously famous as the only crossing of the Colorado River for hundreds of miles in each direction, and it is where Paria Canyon meets Glen Canyon to become Marble Canyon, then to become the Grand Canyon farther downstream. This point is generally considered to be the start of the Grand Canyon, and has been called "both the physical and spiritual heart of water history in the arid American West".
