As seen from Navajo Point in the Grand Canyon. There are many viewpoints from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon on the Arizona side or south rim. Some are reached from the South entrance, others on the west side in the Navajo Reservation. Some of our favorite view points are, from anywhere along Hermit Road to Hermit Rest, like pima, mariopa, hopi, or views from various areas and Yaki which can only be accessed by bus.
.............................................................
Then there are the major viewpoints like Mather, and Yavapai, which are must see locations. Probably at least 90% of visitors go there so they can be crowded
................................................
Less crowded locations, with fantastic views, are Guano, Lapin, Moron, Navajo, and Desert View. Most all of the viewpoints have views of the Colorado river, but some of the best have no view of the river or very restricted one. Maps of the park show some of the areas that you would like other than Mather and Yavapai. Peaks that are prominent such as Isis Temple, Thor, Zoroaster, and views of the Abyss. There are also many trail heads along the south rim where you can walk down (take plenty of water) or even all the way to the river.

great warm colors!
Bob Johnston replied:
most people who take pictures at the Grand Canyon find their pictures have too much blue, but I use a UV haze filter and a polarizing filter. This cuts through all a haze and brings out the color in the Canyon.
