This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

Artist's Description
Inspired by: Christ of the Abyss, (Italian: "Il Cristo degli Abissi") is a submerged bronze statue of Jesus, of which the original is located in the Mediterranean Sea off San Fruttuoso between Camogli and Portofino on the Italian Riviera. It was placed in the water on 22 August 1954 at approximately 17 metres depth, and stands c. 2.5 metres tall. Various other casts of the statue are located in other places worldwide, both underwater and in churches and museums.
The sculpture was created by Guido Galletti after an idea of Italian diver Duilio Marcante. The statue was placed near the spot where Dario Gonzatti, the first Italian to use SCUBA gear, died in 1947. It depicts Christ offering a blessing of peace, with his head and hands raised skyward.(Italian: "Il Cristo degli Abissi") is a submerged bronze statue of Jesus, of which the original is located in the Mediterranean Sea off San Fruttuoso between Camogli and Portofino on the Italian Riviera. Daniel Nadeau
Hello Hartley, I attempted to replicate the underwater shadows and colors from some of the photos of this amazing statue by layering my acrylic paint background then I lightened the upper background using a cloth with lamp oil(you may also use linseed oil). I spent time doing single thick brush strokes of dark olive, turquoise, & forest green(s) to emphasize the layers needed to give the effect I liked/wanted to simulate copper/brass corrosion. The original statue has living plants growing on it. Thanks for the comments. Your paintings are great! They are so colorful and allow people like me to travel to your locals for just a moment. This has become a long comment but one thing that I have started to notice are paintings in television shows and movies. In Alfred Hitchcock's 1945 thriller "Spellbound" Salvadore Dali designed the Dream Sequence. Also several of the wall paintings have a Dali influence.

Daniel teach me also these type of colors that you had in the picture. Nice creation....
