Description
Making the best of a bad situation. While on our annual wildflower drive through the Texas Hill Country, we drove along Lake Buchanan, a beautiful old Corps of Engineers lake that is suffering from several years of severe drought in its watershed and is more than 22 feet below the level at the same time in 2010. You can see the current extent of the lake in the distance. As if to replace the blue of the water, huge drifts of Texas bluebonnets have taken over the former lake bottom in many areas, including the boat dock in this cove. These native Texas wildflowers thrive on barren, dry soil and love the granite-based soil in this region.
