Description
This winter view of Bcharre shows the town in Lebanon known as the birthplace of Khalil Gibran and location of one of the last remaining stands of ancient cedars of Lebanon. But its claim to fame does not end there. Bcharre, also spelled Bsharri, was a Phoenician settlement as early as 1200 BC, and in the 7th century AD it became the refuge home of Maronite Christians. Sited above the Qadisha valley, heartland of Maronite tradition, it is today a major tourist site, attracting skiers, hikers, literati and pilgrims alike.
