Description

For generations this stately arcaded villa has stood high above Bain Militaire in the Manara district of Ras Beirut. Martin Giesen had recorded its graceful appearance in a number of watercolors, the earliest dating back to 1982. Nearby stands the old “Manara” the black and white rimmed structure, constructed by French engineers in the 1860’s. Its maritime function has become obsolete after modern high rises obscure its light beam.
