Description
A Lunenburg summer by Karen Cook - A visit to Lunenburg Nova Scotia provides unending colors, history on every street, and images you ache to capture with your camera, or at least memorize the beauty you see in your mind. No matter what the season, it never ceases to capture the hearts of its visitors.
Located on the south shore of Canada's ocean playground province, the town of Lunenburg was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site to protect its unique architecture and town plan as an example of planned British Colonial settlement in Canada. Its historic downtown is also designated as a National Historic Site of Canada.
Lunenburg was founded in 1753 and continues to be a vital fishing port as well as home of the iconic schooner Bluenose, featured on the Canadian dime. It is summer in Nova Scotia, and the Bluenose is not in port, but as you can see, the harbor is filled with pleasure craft, sailboats, and fishing boats of all types.
While still a vital fishing port and home to ship building companies, fish plants, and small industry, Lunenburg is a must see for tourists visiting Nova Scotia. Seafood restaurants, B&Bs, and art galleries abound.
The waterfront is buzzing with tourists and visitors alike who are anxious to sample a taste of a Lunenburg summer
