Description
Stomach ulcer. Light micrograph of a section of stomach tissue showing a lesion (centre) caused by a gastric ulcer. Gastric ulcers are areas of the stomach lining damaged by acid, pepsin and bile. Stress and excess alcohol consumption are common causes. The ulcers can cause pain and vomiting. Most cases clear up with antacid drugs, but if ulcers reoccur or even perforate the stomach wall, surgery is required. Magnification unknown.
