Salmonella-bacteriophage experiment. Petri dish cultures from fruit tissue contaminated with a strain of Salmonella bacteria and stored for five days at 20 degrees Celsius. The culture on the left was treated with bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria. Salmonella bacteria are Gram-negative bacteria that cause illnesses such as fevers and food poisoning.
