Description
Salmonella enteritidis bacteria. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) showing small cells with filaments, and a few large, rod-shaped cells without filaments. The cells change shape as they grow, and when dehydrated tend to grow in filaments. Salmonella enteritidis is one of the bacteria strains responsible for food poisoning, causing fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea.
