Description
Candida albicans fungal culture. Close-up of an inoculating loop and a petri dish culture of the fungus Candida albicans. Candida fungi are commonly found on the skin and the mucous membranes of the mouth, digestive and respiratory tracts and the vagina. Common candida infections include oral thrush, vaginal thrush and nappy rash. Candida albicans can cause opportunistic oral and genital infections. In immunocompromised patients, C. albicans can also cause life-threatening systematic fungal infections. It is also known to form biofilms on the surface of implantable medical devices. This culture was grown on the nutrient medium Schaedler Agar.
