Aspergillus and Candida albicans cultures. Petri dish containing a nutrient medium that has been used to culture microbes that have been identified as the fungi Aspergillus sp. and Candida albicans. Aspergillus is a common pathogen of plant material, producing the characteristic decay of fruit and food products such as bread. Candida albicans is commonly found on the skin and the mucous membranes of the mouth, digestive and respiratory tracts and the vagina. It is usually harmless. Common candida infections include oral thrush, vaginal thrush and nappy rash.
