Color My World

It was with a lot of reluctance that I got into abstract painting. I was always told that art was supposed to be more structured and I was supposed to create a picture of something. I was told to hone my drawing skills and use them in creating my art.
It is a very unusual thing for me, thinking of making a painting that doesn't have any real image. When I finally did start creating abstract art, it was to reach a new audience and hopefully boost my sales. I was afraid that I wouldn't enjoy it and wouldn't be that good at it. I have found that I am not.
Well, I guess I don't necessarily stink at abstract art. But I certainly wouldn't say it's my best event. It is harder than it looks. You don't just start smacking color here and there. It does take some thought and composition to actually like the end result. I have struggled with abstract art, and I have had a lot of failures.
When I do complete an abstract painting that is actually good, I find that it is based on something that is both simple and complicated. I approach my abstract paintings as color studies. I take a handful of colors that I think look good together and arrange them in ways that I hope will be appealing. Sometimes they are more so than others. I love it when the colors blur into each other, creating new colors. Some of them are very pretty.
I will probably keep creating the occasional abstract painting, while also keeping to my wildlife art. I basically want to keep to what I think I do best. But it is good for me to push myself and experiment with the unknown. Whether or not I like the finished painting, I am sure that someone else will like it. That is the great thing about art. It is subjective. One person may hate a particular painting, but another might absolutely love it.
