Candid Street Fashion (new Group)

We are photographers who love taking candid street fashion. The Grand Master of this genre art is William J. "Bill" Cunningham (born March 13, 1929) an American fashion photographer for The New York Times, known for his candid and street photography.

"The best fashion advice I'd say would be just to do what makes you comfortable and what makes you feel cute, and that's how you're gonna look your best 'cause when you feel your best, everybody else can feel it, too.

"He who seeks beauty will find it" - Bill Cunningham

There is a terrific Documentary/Biography of Bill Cunningham worth watching ... Titled; Bill Cunningham New York

Here's a review;

This feature about one of the worlds leading photographers is something not to be missed. It paints the portrait of a man who see's the world from a different view than most. It shows the beauty in the mind of one who's view on fashion is something that comes from a deeper place. We get to see snip-it's of Bill Cunningham's deepest emotions and also the vision of a true visionary. These moments captured are charming, slightly funny, and relevant. Of all the documentaries scoping the life of one person I've seen, they really don't get much better than this.
This film, which does have much critical acclaim now, is one that is deserving of it's praise, and at the same time is not in any way pretentious. It is not only one of the most heartfelt films of the year, but also one of the very best.

Ed,
Yes, thanks for mentioning this wonderful film. I've see it and will watch it again...BC was lucky in that he did not have to do street fashion photography for money.

Win,
He is a tremendous character, a real free spirit.

"Cunningham photographs people and the passing scene in the streets of Manhattan every day, focusing on their genuine usage of clothing to express personal style. He is known not to overly photograph celebrities (like paparazzi would) or people that use fame to showcase clothing they did not originally pick themselves (sponsored, free clothing). Most of his pictures, he has said, are never published.[1] His personal independence philosophy was cited by CNN: "You see if you don't take money, they can't tell you what to do, kid."[4] Designer Oscar de la Renta has said, "More than anyone else in the city, he has the whole visual history of the last 40 or 50 years of New York. It's the total scope of fashion in the life of New York."[3] He has made a career taking unexpected photographs of everyday people, socialites and fashion personalities, many of whom value his company. According to David Rockefeller, Brooke Astor asked that Cunningham attend her 100th birthday party, the only member of the media invited.[3]"
