Urls Change When Editing Certain Images?

Why does the url change when you edit certain images?

I went to this image:
http://fineartamerica.com/featured/1-time-stands-still-mono-john-rizzuto.html

After I editing the image and went back to the same url it says page not found. So I a manually found the image. The url is now:
http://fineartamerica.com/featured/2-time-stands-still-mono-john-rizzuto.html

So I tired it again. I went to the new URL http://fineartamerica.com/featured/2-time-stands-still-mono-john-rizzuto.html and edited the now image.

Now it saved as http://fineartamerica.com/featured/1-time-stands-still-mono-john-rizzuto.html

What gives? Why is the URL changing for some images ? It doesn't happen with all my images just some. Why? This totally screws up links posted on other web sites.

URLs are based on your name and the image title. If you change either of those when you edit the image the URL will change. If you didn't change either one, then you may have found a glitch in the system.

Nope, didn't change either one of them.

Another thought: Do you have another image that happens to have the same title? That might confuse the system.

yeah, i can only assume you have 2 with the same file name, and this is how the system now handles that. the link will break, but google will fix it at some point.

What do you mean that google will fix it? How does it do that?

google bots come by now and then and re indexes your site. they follow the keywords you have and simply scours the site for info. correcting and updating things as it goes along.

however it can't fix the broken links on things like pinterest, twitter etc.

Yeah that is what I thought. Very few if any images from here show up on Google anymore so I was more concerned with the broken links from the other web sites.
