Windows 10 Problems

Well I do not know what to do. My Windows 10 start menu is not working.
I do not have a virus according to Avast which is probably 99.9% right, but
the latest viruses....if I picked up one of them.....will not be covered by Avast for a few hours
here. Possibly. Not 100%.

I have tried a bunch of fixes from Aug 2015. No luck at all. I have no task bar icons. Either.

The system is less responsive. There is no shutting off the computer through the software. I need
to hit the start/stop button physically.

Anyone else have these problems?

Dave

You may have accidentally turned on Tablet Mode. If so, here's how to turn it off:

Dan,

No luck. I can not get to the settings. The start button will not work. The Win + P is the button
between the control and the alt right?

Tablet Mode is just speculation on my part, that *could* be it. Yes, the Win key is between control and alt; it (usually) has a Windows logo on it. You should be able to turn Tablet Mode off and on with just key strokes.

Mine did that..... I turned off the latest programme I had put on and it brought them back

Have you tried Ctrl + alt del?

Restart?

You can try restoring it to the last stable update. Windows also doesn't seem to like being restarted with an external hard drive attached sometimes.

Adding to Adam's post; do you have an external drive attached? If so it could be throwing the boot sequence into a tail spin. If not try and restore the system to the last time it was working good. I've heard some "stuff" about Windows 10. Haven't gone there yet.

My laptop won't boot up with external drive attached but that doesn't sound like the problem David is having. If he can somehow get to a previous restore point that should fix it at least temporarily.

I refuse to install Windows 10 until/unless they get the bugs out. It is lurking in the background however and has made some unauthorized changes.

It was late last night when I finally logged off, 2 am. I slept in this morning.
Getting back on the computer, booting up, the machine went through a very long updating process.

The machine is now fully functional.

I think the updated did not announce itself last night. That is why the task bar was non operational. With the icons missing.

Everything is mysteriously well.

Thanks for offering your help everyone. I did run a sfc scannow and there were no corrupted files. I ran Avast and no viruses etc.....
Nothing but an update on the bootup this morning.
