Thanks for your help and criticism everyone haha! It's helped me to finally decide upon a better theme!

i kind of don't think that's a good theme. we want children - not - to do those things. it really depends what you plan on doing with these things. where its going, etc.

I'm not very keen on the theme myself! However I want to draw portraits of children/toddlers and feel that I'm very stuck for themes! Any other ideas?

If you're not into the idea why in the world would you do it? Just draw the portraits how you want, your style will show through and will appeal to some people. No need for a theme.

" losing innocence.'

I love that theme. It will only have sexual confrontations if you make that way.

The first time a child sees anything or experiences any first at all, they lose a certain amount of innocence.

Their first word, their fist step, their fist all the way through their first car....

First butterfly, first baby animal, first time they see their new born brother or sister...

Their fist flower, their first snow fall....

Their first kiss... their first date... their first prom.... their first dance...

And as they grow older then never stop experienced the first encounters with a lot of things other then sex.

I think it is a wonderful never ending, theme full of a million ideas that can be painted...

There are some harsh realities there but I have to agree WHY? And if you wish to sell art I can't see much of a market for that type of thing. Just do art you love...as you do... themes may become apparent.

edit: what Floyd said...

There is no innocence to loose. We are all born guilty, and grow into it.

The theme, thus, is based on what I believe is a false premise.

What are we guilty of? Eating? Breathing? Taking up space?

See Van Halen's "1984" LP cover!

Knowledge alone can help children lose their innocence or naiveness.
Hence Children pictured with a lamp of light or a spiritual teacher, can portray what you are looking for.

Reference: Larry Clark's movie "Kids" - great soundtrack, very disturbing movie.

i'm not really that clear on why do a topic that your not into... your not from the same school as trying to identify an artist with an avatar are you?

i agree with floyd here, its the first thing i think of. and that's a very bad topic to get into. people may actually start looking at you in a different way and not a good way.

if you only touched into odd dating things, you can probably do that. but i would stay away from booze, drugs and the like. it sets up a very bad example. though i suppose if you replaced dogs or cats with the children, it might work.

Yes. All of these in contexts of gluttony, self-aggrandizement, and overpopulating the planet mainly because of our major guilty pleasure, if you know what I mean.

Oh you mean sex drive? Something we share with every other successful species.

Hi Willow-Rose, you could look at children in war, children who are caught up in escaping conflict (thing about all the refugees we see being rescued from boats etc). Children who care for disabled adults, young children who have to go to work to support their family in some parts of the world. Children lose their innocence in lots of way other than just smoking, drinking and sex. Good luck with your assignment!

People think differently, it really depends on what level you mean to be...

i really wish people that make threads would leave their original comments in, then edit it out. now this thread makes no sense.

Thread is pretty much closed with out being actually closed now anyway, but ya, I agree Mike. It sure has lost its meaning. ;-)
