Trying To Understand Sizing On Women's T-shirts

I live in the UK and I have bought quite a few plain T-shirts from Costco. It's is a US company and I buy their own Kirkland brand.

The size I buy is called Women's Large and I have just measured one. It is 18inches across and 25 inches long which is what is called small here at Pixels, so I am very confused. I know they've been washed a few times so may have shrunk a little but they fitted me fine when new and still do.

I am a 14 to 16 UK size which is a 10 to 12 US size, surely I wouldn't order the small from my website, there are lots of women here smaller than me!

UGH. Bizarre. From reports these things are all over the map.

I know from buying various brands of tops and pants in stores, each garment can fit differently, even in the same brand, style, and numbered size. It seems manufacturing quality control at the factory level has gone the way of the dodo bird in recent years.

Gill, I would suggest buying a Pixels size Medium in a woman's - or man's - t-shirt for yourself and then washing it in cold and drying it on low.

Gill, my rule of thumb:
If its 100% cotton buy a larger size - they shrink

I get a Medium if material is 50/50. If not, get a large and expect shrinkage.

I prefer 50/50

With the art on the shirts, perhaps they won't shrink as much because they probably should be washed in cold water and dried on low, unlike plain t-shirts.

I noticed the washing directions on the Pixels site say only "machine washable," which perhaps should be edited to include water temperature and drying instructions.

Thanks for your input ladies, I think I'll order the medium, I would rather it was a little too big than too small!
