Just a random quote I ran upon today)

Poor investment, not archival.

I created a piece of art and my tattooist added it for me. I'm poor. I'm common.....I got it cheap.... Lol

I have been thinking about having a tattoo done of one of my photographs... I just need to find someone who wants it on them!

Investment implies future enhanced value.

Not sure where that will ever be the case. Quit the opposite in a lot of cases. People paying a lot of money (and suffering) to have them removed.

I guess if you put them in place where people are willing to pay to see them, that may be considered an investment. But that assumes you have a place that people would be willing to see even without the tat.

Not a big fan of tats myself. But if I thought I could make a buck flashing one, I may reconsider the investment. Or maybe not. :-)

I used to have students say they were going to get their name (or other text) tattooed on their foreheads. I always told them to make sure it was done in reverse so they could read it when looking in a mirror. That always seemed to puzzle them. :)

Well then color me common. ( except I have no colored tats LOL) I have three pieces of my own artwork on me. And several of other people's. Although I disagree about tattoos being a poor investment. The enhanced value I receive is not monetary. My tattoos improve my self-esteem and confidence. Some of my tattoos remind me of how I survived tough times, others remind me of great times, while some are just simply beautiful. Some people invest money in therapist, acupuncture, massage; while some people benefit from ink therapy. But I do not think this is true for all people. Their are many people who regret their choices for permanent body modifications. Although I do not regret any of my tattoos, I do have some tattoos that are not of exceptional quality. For example my first tattoo I gave to myself from a homemade tattoo gun when I was 12. The tattoo is barely even visible these days but I appreciate it and the memories I have behind it. I would love to have more, but as I mature I realize anything of quality is worth more and costs more. So for now I will continue to save. So that I can have more exceptional artwork added to my personal canvas. Just as an added note always do you research before you do any type of body modifications. Get to know your artist. And know all of their safety practices.

"Poor investment, not archival" yes - but it is art you can take with you.

People steal my art to make tattoos. I don't get paid. :(

Just never ever have a tattoo placed where the skin may, ahem, "loose it's elasticity" ... I've seen some pretty glaring examples (not personal as I have none) but what looks like a soaring butterfly may, in 30 years or so, look like a pile of autumn leaves ready for pick up!!! (That given ... I think some are very beautiful and envy the talent of the artists)
