Karen Buford

Hello, New To The Group

Hello, I'm Karen Buford. I've been with FAA since May 2013, I haven't sold any artwork in all that time though many friends have promised to buy. I did win a few FAA contests and even a few $$ for my artwork so that was pretty cool! It's nice to be recognized by your peers, even if you don't win anything but recognition! For a while I was beginning to wonder If I was on the right site, but then I started getting really nice comments from people all over the world and who can beat that? So even if I never sell a single piece of art I've made friends in every corner of the globe and I'm an "internationally known" artists! Its really kinda funny so I just keep hanging in there with FAA and bugging my friends and family to actually buy some art instead of expecting it as free birthday, Christmas, graduation and wedding gifts! So that's some of my story. I'll post one of my most viewed artworks but by no means fully representative of my full range of interests, subject matter, or media,

Thanks so much! This piece is called Natural Baby Girl. I like her so much I use her for my picture on Facebook art fan page! This is a digital art piece taken from a photo turned into a drawing and run through a couple more computer applications to get th finished product! Believe me my fingers were pretty tired by the time I was done and I went back and forth with color, texture, line, shading, values the whole 9 yards. I'm happy how it turned out she's soo cute!

Hi, Karen -- your work is wonderful! :-)

Sell Art Online

I learned long ago not to count on friends and family as a viable market for my art; It's the entire rest of the world I'm after! Here's some unsolicited, late-night advice --

Remember to always market yourself and your work where it's appropriate. For instance, if you mention having a Facebook page (which you did), follow up by making sure interested parties can then find, Like, Friend, and/or Follow your page. There are also Facebook and Twitter threads here in the forums, where you can add your links. That's an easy way to pick up new followers and follow other artists, too. Here's a current/recent FB thread --

Search the forum for threads on marketing your work. There's tons of easily accessible information available here.

Leave no stone unturned in getting the word out! Oh, and late-night threads don't have nearly the reach of threads posted during peak, daytime hours. Stop by tomorrow (oops, make that later today, in my time zone), and comment in your thread. That will bump your thread up so, hopefully, more FAA members can read it and get to know you. Our discussion threads show up in Google, so participating here can boost your overall Internet presence -- even if just a bit.

Wishing you the very best,

~ Wendy
