Shall I Sell?

Hi I am just wondering if you think I could sell or start selling these? I've had a few compliments so thought I would ask.

It's a celebrity from sons of anarchy. No need for permission.

yes you would. celebrities more than anyone have a right to use their own likeness the way they want, so not only would you have to ask the photographer permission, but the actor as well. sort of like a copyright for the face.

Mike I see tons of people selling on here without copyright permission and FAA doesn't seem to care and if they are printing it they are guilty too.

Pretty sure you can sell drawings of whatever you want. After all it could be an uncle who just looks like him? I'm asking if I'm good at drawing... Any real answers

On that note, do you have Charlie hunnams contact number? You know that celebrity I will never be able to contact. Fool

just because you see it, doesn't make it right or legal. the thing is, if your good at drawing, you can draw anyone. but your choosing someone famous, using that likeness to sell it.

i'm certain that if you tried hard enough you can find their agent, and contact them like that. there are enough people that send him fan letters, one of them can be yours. there are people that will sue artists for using their images. i think a singer is doing that right now. its a good thing to know now before its prevented. there are rules on this site btw, i'm trying to help you out here, calling me a fool - i'm certain is against certain rules.

Mike when people don't here what they want they attack you, if you didn't want the truth and opinions, then don' ask a question.

This is getting out of hand, I've drawn 1 celebrity picture and I am thinking of selling it for £20 or £30. But no...it's not illegal to draw a picture, drawing is a product of your artistic ability and your impression and personal opinion.
Obviously if the photographer gets in contact to sue me I will let you know. All I wanted to know is whether I am ready to start drawing and selling, the majority are friends and family of others. This was just a good example of my skills. Oh and have a look at how many posts or tweets this guy gets... If get a reply that he is going to sue me I would be excited he's seen my post...

ah.. gotcha, its too warm in my room to concentrate... sales... should come back after this weekend. trying the old avatar for luck.

thing is dan, its not illegal to draw. however someone took that photo, and its a breach of copyright, and its a famous person, and they have say in it as well. its just how it is. if you have other images - things that aren't actors, things like houses, landscape, models that you paid or signed for, there probably won't be any issues.

on the level of selling, yes i think your fine at selling. but just be cautioned that it may haunt you later if he wanted to fight back. it doesn't hurt to ask, he might say yes.

You can TRY to sell. Whether you actually WILL sell is another matter entirely. Having good art is actually only a minor component to selling.

Mike Savad

there is the huge competition from all the other fans of that person also selling fan art borrowed from photos found online. if that image by the way was from getty - they will sue you. they are overly aggressive. but that's fun for a different day. you have to advertise your work and have a good stock of it. not to mention finding fans of that person who likes him enough to want fan art of him.

Mike, have you graduated law school and passed the bar while I was away?

So, enough about the legalities as you would need to consult an attorney for actual legal advice.

Yes, your work is good enough to sell. Yes, quality and having good art is just a part of selling?

You should scan and upload a couple of examples so we can see better what you do.
However from what I've seen so far the standard appears to be good enough to sell.
Remember in future to get permission (preferably in writing) from the model, so as to avoid any possible future problems.
Then the hard work begins - marketing.
