Support And Platform For Heavy Camera Lenses

In a thread about the new 150-600mm Sigma lenses, Mark Papke recommended a Cotton Carrier vest to take the strain off neck and shoulders.I took a look and thought it might be a good solution for my 50-500mm. Cotton Carrier also offers a "Steady Shot" that slips into the vest to provide a stable platform for shooting. I went to B&H and found they sell the combo for $319. Went to Ebay and saw that AvidMax is selling the same combo for $255.20 ( or payments of $43 for 6 months) . Went to the AvidMax website, where they offer an additional 10% off for the first purchase after signing up for their newsletter. So with 10% off, their bottom line cost is $229.68. That's a savings of $89.32 over B&H's $319.00. B&H often offers the best price but it never hurts to shop around!

I also have 50-500mm lens and I have the Cotton Carrier. Although it takes the strain off the neck, it doesn't really help me in the long run. Due to my chest size, the cotton carrier doesn't sit right, when the camera/lens is attached. My husband has worn the cotton carrier and it works for him just fine.

Chest size. Dare I ask?

My Cotton Carrier vest and Steady Shot will arrive tomorrow so I'll have it on the next shoot. I don't anticipate using the lens platform very often but I'd rather have it handy than fuss with a tripod.
