How To Choose A Group

I am overwhelmed with finding a group I will fit in. I do photography and Watercolors. No particular theme. I would like to be part of a group. Any suggestions?

Look in search or find groups on the Community tab above that are recommended for you. Also look at other members groups

Thanks Jessica, I did look at the ones recommended but they didn't feel right for me. I'll keep looking.

You don't have to have a particular theme. Just join any group for which you have some artwork that fits and join as many of them as you have time to manage.

Here's a good example, your boat paintings would fit well in this group;

just choose the ones that fit what you do.

boats, birds, beach - all the subjects you have. plus the watercolor stuff. its not all that hard.

Shirely,

Here are the two I run...........

http://fineartamerica.com/groups/raw-critique.html

http://fineartamerica.com/groups/photo-critique-one-on-one-.html

Both, as the name implies, are more of a "does this look right or what did I do wrong" groups. RAW is more open and other members will jump in and the One on One, is more private, in the sense that generally, I'll be the only one suggesting stuff, unless I ask others to join in,

Rich

Thanks Lady Isabella.

Mike, I ask for suggestions because so many of the groups I looked at were not very active. I know it's not hard but I like to hear what others have to say. Especially the more active members like some of you.

Rich, that sounds interesting.

I would never join a group that would allow me as a member…couldn't trust their judgement.

In general, If it has something to do with "watercolor", or "painting", then join. If it has something to do with "photography", then join. It's that easy. If for some reason you later feel it was a mistake, just click the "quit group" button.

Just make sure you read the group description for particulars. For instance, if it's for abstract only and you don't do abstract, then obviously don't join.

What I'm most concerned about is that less and less groups will permit more than one image to be uploaded in 24 hours (even though they now have a "holding tank" of sorts). If I have a few images that I want to upload, I want to do it all at once. Not spread out over several days or weeks.

Tony, funny!

Brian, I'll try that.

i don't worry about active. usually active means its an oddball group. so many think its a good idea to dump stuff into a generic group, that they concentrate their efforts on that. instead of the isolated group with fewer people. the less people, the greater the chance that it will be sorted, featured and maybe sold. i join them as they are new, so i never really looked at any of that.

If you want a friendly group where you can share your images and help others promote theirs as well, try The Road to Self Promotion. They are the most active group here and all types of artwork is welcome. Others at the top of the active list are also very friendly and helpful so if you search by recently active you'll find some good ones. Good luck!

Good ideas and advice, Shirley.

You say, "What I'm most concerned about is that less and less groups will permit more than one image to be uploaded in 24 hours (even though they now have a "holding tank" of sorts). If I have a few images that I want to upload, I want to do it all at once. Not spread out over several days or weeks."

In my experience many of the administrators who are limiting uploads to one per day are desperately trying to keep up and do a good - even an excellent - job with their groups. That can't be done when people are permitted multiple uploads in a day - the administrator gets buried very quickly. Plus when they allow several uploads at a time, administrators are MUCH more likely to get work that is entirely unsuitable for the group as people submit when they upload and really don't pay that much attention to the group description.

@ Nikolyn McDonald -

I have several groups of my own Nikolyn. I've never had an administrative problem. I believe some "administrators" didn't quite give things enough thought before they started a group. I knew my own groups would not be as popular because they were not what others would think of as "mainstream". This was part of my plan from the beginning. In other words, don't make a group that will attract so many common images to begin with if that would make it to difficult to manage. Make it special in a way that limits the amount of common submissions.
