What Is Your Experience With Paper.li ??

http://paper.li/

A few people I follow on Twitter send out this online newspaper with custom content. Just thinking, Is this something we can use to promote FAA groups or would that be redundant??

Very good. Easy to set up and I have a few subscribers. I keep forgetting I have it lol

I get added sometimes to different peoples paper.li but I haven't really seen any visits from the links they share in their "paper".

Thanks for your feedback, I'll look into it. I'm thinking of creating a paper or newsletter to share new and active groups. Maybe it will create a following from art decor agents and consultants.

Frank,

I began my paper.li

I am not sure how to post to it or get it to take up info? Help?

Dave -- Thanks. I'll be starting mine in the next day or two, still thinking how I want to go about it. So, maybe Abbie or someone who knows will chime in here at some point.

Frank,

I have mine set up. You need to watch several videos. It is worth it, the free version that is.

Some of my Twitter posts get grabbed for peoples papers. My last one was a photograph of my rescue Pit with her story, but it was posted in their Environment section. So far, I haven't seen any upside to being in the paper.

Frank J Casella

Thanks Dave ... I"ll make time for those videos then. Yours looks really nice ... subscribed.

Sharon -- Thank you. I'm wondering if the stats are more for the person who creates the paper than for those included in it? Am I making sense here? I mean, it looks like this paper is about providing valuable content so the creator of it gets more engagement and followers more than those included in it. If so, it would be nice to find a way for all to benefit.

EDIT: My motto, if you will, has always been to give without looking for anything in return. So if I do this paper this motto would not change. But I understand most think the opposite.

SharaLee Art

Frank, I'm sure you're correct...more benefit for the creator than the ones that supply the content for the paper. I wish there was a way to "turn off" being a content provider for those publishing the paper. I don't like being the fuel for another's fire if I get nothing. Can you tell I'm in a negative place? Lol.

SharaLee Art

Re your motto...with social media, no, I want something back if I give :) all other aspects in life, I give/help without expecting something in return, as it should be.

Frank J Casella

"Can you tell I'm in a negative place? Lol." I hope its just a 'season' like all of us go through from time to time. If I find a way to turn that off I'll be sure to post it in this thread so keep watching, Sharon. Thank you very much for your thoughts!

Frank J Casella

Was posting during your last post .... I find that when I provide value messages it create more engagement than when I try to sell. So, yeah, in a way I look for something back from social media .... but I don't let it make me angry if it doesn't. Stats are important to watch, but 'social' is the key to it all.

Thanks, Frank :)
I hope it's just a temporary mood. I'm really down because I can't get out and shoot any longer..major back problems have pretty much left me housebound. I need to find another creative outlet. I thought getting my Wacom Cintiq would be the answer but I was wrong. I have lots of thinking to do :/

Sharon,

When you pick an image, you get to choose which topic to put it under. I put my images under PHOTOS.
And they also automatically show up under my headlines towards the middle bottom.

Frank when you are all set I will follow you back when you post a link.

Frank I dropped my image prices. I see these prints as more of a commodity than I had thought previously.
I see my ideas as good or valuable. I am trying to get into a museum currently. I have no idea if my work will;
be taken. I am also joining a local Artists' Guild. I am learning about marketing further out than just being seen here
on FAA. This paper.li is a kind of crossroads with a blog.

Sharon -- I've been there .... have you checked nucca.com for your back issues? If not, look it over and if you have questions send me a private message tomorrow.

Thinking what you said about social media and getting something back .... one thing I do that I didn't realize until you posted this is that developing relationships through social media is important, but doesn't happen over night ... rather day-by-day. This should be the ultimate goal over Likes and Shares, as the saying goes people buy from who they know and trust.

I think I'll take a look at your twitter feed for some ideas. I haven't been posting on mine regularly and was posting only photos with occasional art news. I did notice I received quite a bit of favs and retweets for the few news posts I did tweet. I'm not angry about it, just discouraged. I think there is so much to learn about SM and I need to do some studying before jumping directly into it like I have.

David Bridburg

Frank,

I am looking over notes form an MIT marketing class. Those notes are easy enough to understand.
The lecture notes do not talk over anyone's head. The concepts are laid out elegantly.

Push is when you fill the channels with your product
Pull is when the customers look for your product by name

If you dont push no one will pull. That is what I am learning. LOL

Good to know, Dave, I'll post here when my paper is up and running .... in a day or so. Hope things work out with the museum, the farthest I've gone is the local frame shop. I think what you're doing with your pricing is right on ... but won't elaborate here as it will change the direction of this thread.

David..."When you pick an image, you get to choose which topic to put it under. I put my images under PHOTOS."

Is this on twitter? I haven't seen where you can choose a topic.

Frank J Casella

Dave -- there is a lot to push and pull. Dan Heller does a great job describing it on his website danheller.com

The key to it I think is when you push you then pull the to .. attract ... engaged ... connect. This causes the viewer to Like or Share ... and over time contact you or buy from you.

Frank J Casella

David -- I think the push and pull plays right into paper.il like you and I are thinking. Just surprised it seems not many here are using it.

SharaLee Art

Thanks, Frank..I'll check out the site tomorrow.

Being social on twitter is difficult for me. I'm still unsure of how to interact. Do I comment directly on the post or send an @xxx to the person. Those in my feed don't seem to active in communication that I've seen. Everyone just tweets and I see an occasional mass @ to thank people. I do much better on FB. I'm regretting that I deleted my FB page last year as I had over 2000 followers.

Frank J Casella

No worries, Sharon, I dumped my Facebook a year ago and it had about the same number of followers ..... FB owns Instagram for a reason. Look there instead. I've cut back on Twitter since then. This is where paper.li comes in .... for twitter.

SharaLee Art

I think I'm going to look into paper.il
I'm reading David's right now, then I'll pull up a few that I was in to see how they're put together.
Thinking out loud here...if I feature news about rescue/shelter dogs and cats it might draw in people with that common interest. And maybe I could focus some of my photography on the rescue dogs once I hopefully get back into driving transports. And by doing this it will help get people to my site and other photographs. Am I correct in my thinking?

Frank J Casella

It sounds good in theory, Sharon. Like anything it takes time to develop those relationships but it will come back to you. I'm sure you'll be rewarded with much more than what your initial intentions are.

David Bridburg

Frank,

I had hooked up all sorts of feeds to the Paper.li system. I was getting a ton of really bad stuff.

I took it all out except my Tweets which I only add a few per week.

I then hooked up to MIT.edu and three of MIT's feeds. I might read my own paper. LOL I probably will.

https://paper.li/DavidBridburg/1430707570#!headlines

I have control over the major heading, but MIT now feeds most of the rest of my paper.

David King

So that's what that is. lol I got mentioned a few times via Twitter in some "papers", the format looked familiar to me but I didn't know what it was. I never subscribed but I thought it was cool that someone thought of me and took the time to link one of my blog posts I tweeted to their "paper" and so I favorited their tweet of the "paper". I really don't have time to put something like that together myself.

David Bridburg

wow, I added in FB and Twitter and a way to email me.

This is really shaping up.

David K,

It generates its self depending on what RSS feeds you add.

Dave

JC Findley,

If you are reading this tomorrow AM, you can add RSS feeds to the US Air Force.

Frank,

You can add your denomination and other interesting things such as charities.

Does it select random posts though? I'm just wondering how one of my tweets ends up in a paper but others of the same topic don't? If that's the only way it works then that's another reason not to do it as far as I'm concerned, I would want to have total control of the selection of the content.

David Bridburg

No, when I hook up to MIT I get quality stuff or stuff I like and in this case I respect.
So I then email out to my list of folks who happen to have tie ins to MIT.
I tell them that my paper.li has organized MIT RSS feeds. It looks great and is easy to read.
I gave them the link to the account. Asked them if they wanted to subscribe. I told them
my paper would come out on Saturdays. Their day off.

I have my Twitter RSS feed on there as well. So I have my bio, my paper's name etc with my subtitle.
I have my twitter feed under my bio.

I have the main headline which is my latest piece of art. I can keep that there or replace it at any time.

Then my feeds which I choose only to have a bunch of MIT feeds propagates the whole thing.

You need to watch a bunch of YouTube videos and then go into action. The whole process for me
took about 1.5 hours. Because you know you will be choosing feeds which is poorly spelled out,
but you will know up front now that I have said something, you will choose upfront what RSS feeds
you want and this will take less than an hour.

DAC,

Mind putting up a link?

I'd love to see it.

Dave

David King

I'm not sure how it's providing a service to anyone to just link to randomly generated feeds. If I'm following somebody I want to see information they curate, not just stuff that's generated automatically. So I guess it was no honor to get included in one these things, at least I know now to ignore them.

Frank J Casella

DAC -- Thanks for your feedback, please do share the link to your Paper.li Thanks!

David -- When others include my content in their Paper I view it at another way for people to find me. When I view the Paper sent my my followers I usually look to see who in included and find sometimes others I want to connect with.

I have to admit at first glace I didn't see the big picture of it, but recently it came to me about it would be a great way for sharing groups from here.

David Bridburg

Frank,

There are times that having other artists involved is great, interesting, and fun, but you need to open up
a paper for your community interests. This means more subscribers in your shopping community.
Artists are not our main market.

David -- my last post I meant David King. Sorry. Yes, you are right .... I'm thinking in terms of my being groups mod.

David King

Frank, I can see the possibility of the utility of it for your position as the groups administrator. Yes, any link to your art is good to have, but it would mean more if the person linking to me had actually chosen to link to me for a reason rather than have my link just randomly fed to their feed. I can't imagine many people actually subscribe to these "papers".

David B. -- I'm still tweaking in but the First Edition goes out Wednesday afternoon.

David K. -- I don't mind my content in anothers paper, as I believe in keep giving without expecting anything in return. Actually, what I get from it is priceless that words can't describe.

Frank,

I just joined. I like that you added the White Sox.

I have one link to my Paper.li on my about page.

With only my Twitter feed and several MIT feeds, the paper adds a touch of class.

This is yet something else on my to do list as I think these work really well. I get featured in one at least every couple of weeks by someone or other. The hashtags on twitter make a difference, for example my tai chi images get picked up by at least three newsletter compilers and so my art appears in there and it is a good additional marketing channel. The people usually send me a DM and I RT to my crowd. I think it is a great idea for the groups Frank.
