Coming To Seattle

Hello,

My name is Jim and I live in Orlando, Florida. I will be coming to Seattle the week after next for business and if anyone has some suggestions on the best places to photograph, that would be great. I've been there a couple times before so I have some ideas.

Obviously if the weather permits, Mt. Rainier is a must. Kerry Park is also a must. Farmer's Market is a must. Alki Beach is a must, And I'd like to go up to Beacon Hill and take pictures of planes coming and going from Boeing field but I heard this might not be the greatest of areas. Can anyone confirm?

As it stands now, I'll be arriving Sunday midday and staying all week thru Friday when I'll be taking the red eye back home. If anyone would like to meet up and show me your favorite photo opportunities or just offer any insight, I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you for reading and have a great day.

Jim

One of my favorite spots is Deception Pass, and all along Whidbey Island.

You should probably go to West Seattle and Alki Beach where you can get some good shots across to Seattle waterfront ..its a bit of a distance but worth it.

I went over to Beacon Hill a few weeks ago and I am not sure that you can get that great of shots there of planes going in and out of Boeing Field. I was not really impressed. But I might have been in the wrong place. Check out this website: http://www.shuttertours.com/our-blog/archives/719

You should check out the Museum of flight though so ask there as its right next door to Boeing Field..you can spend a day there. Go over to Seattle Center and check out that area...Queen Anne Street. A busy week for me and an Art Show on May 8th..have fun in Seattle.

Get on the ferry and go over to Bainbridge Island you can get great shots of the city and waterfront from the ferry. The Arboretum is worth going too lots of beautiful things to photograph there. Green lake, lake Union. Whidbey Island and the San Juans are really beautiful as well. You can take the Victoria Clipper up to the San Juans.

Crista - Thanks for the input. I checked both of those locations and unfortunately I don't think I'll have the kind of time to explore either of them. I'll probably have only one full day and the rest of my time will be weekday evenings.

Cathy - Yep! I plan on visiting Alki Beach. Been there before and what an amazing view. Now that I have a better camera, I'm definitely returning. Probably won't go to the Museum of Flight. I've been there once already and would LOVE to go back but unfortunately I don't have a lot of time.

Chaline - Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, like I said to Crista's response, not sure I'm going to have a lot of time to explore areas that far outside of Seattle. One of the things I really wanted to do was go to Mount Si and hike to the top for, what looks to be, awesome views but again, time is not on my side on this trip.

Those pesky jobs, they take all the fun away from what's really important - photography! :-)

Thanks everyone. Still have a couple more weeks so any ideas, feel free to post up.

Hi James,
One place that has great views of Rainier and the sound is up at discovery park which is about 15 mins from downtown in the Magnolia Neighborhood. The Bainbridge ferry is an easy 20 min ride from downtown and at sunset it's spectacular the ferry runs about every half hour and it's easy to catch after work. Ballard is a nice neighborhood to check out too.

Chaline - Thanks again. Discovery Park looks cool. Lots of nice pictures on Google Maps.

One thing I remember about the Ballard area was that the last time I was in Seattle, we went to the Woodland Park Zoo and I remember looking towards the west and thinking how cool the elevation change was in that area, at least I think it was that area.

Besides my original list, Dr. Jose Rizel Park looks like a good opportunity to capture highway long exposure shots/downtown and maybe Gas Works Park.
