Newbie Question Regarding "likes"

I'm sure that this question has been asked many times before, but I was unable to locate an answer using the search function, so I apologize for the repetition.

When someone "likes" an image, what difference does it make? Obviously, it adds to the feedback for the artist, which is always nice, but is there a significance beyond that? My understanding is that if I add an image to my Favorites, it's an indication that I like the image enough to add it to my collection. Fine. So why would someone "fave" an image but not "like" it? Why would someone "like" an image but not "fave" it?

Is there an FAQ somewhere that addresses the significance of "likes" and "faves"?

Favs show up in your favorites tab.

I think liking or voting is good for search.

voting, fav's, comments, watches, etc do help in the search a little bit. it used to count for more, but just like facebook, its more like a game. it also lets you keep an eye on an artist or the work. but at the same time it can lead a buyer out of your store and into your competitions.

I "like" to show my support. I only "fave" if I want to add it to my wish list. I comment only if I have something to say. So, you have three options, and you are free to do any or all. Hope that helps.
